A project of the Philippine Consulate General since 2002, READ PHILIPPINES continues to adopted by various Fil-Am organizations in the Tri-State area.  As of June 2008, the Consulate's listing shows 17 public and school libraries in the Tri-state area with Read Philippines collections.  Since the campaign was launched in November 2002, the Philippine Consulate General in New York has worked closely with the Filipino-American community and together, have donated over 500 notable books, videos and CD-ROMS to school and public libraries in the tri-state area.

As of June 2008, seventeen (17) libraries have  READ PHILIPPINES collections. There are nine libraries in New York located in Manhattan, Flushing, Elmhurst, Jamaica, Rockland County and in the Bronx. (none in Long Island both Nassau and Suffolk counties). There are  seven in New Jersey and one in Connecticut. 

Our mission is to gather and collect Philippine books on or before April 30, 2009 and this collection will be donated to the Sachem Public Library located at 150 Holbrook Road, Holbrook, NY 11741.  READ PHILIPPINES will be permanently be displayed and the collection of children's and adult books will continue to be updated and maintained.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

  •  Donate Philippine books you own.
  • Buy books from a bookstore of your choice, or any Philippine book distributor in your area, such as the Philippine Expression Bookshop c.o Linda Nietes at (310) 514-9139 or  bring back a book or two from your regular visits to the Philippines.

  • Send checks to the Philippine Consulate General, 556 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10036-5095, payable to Read Philippines to buy books for you.
